Labour unions warned about possible malfeasance with documents and material assets at the Kremikovtzi mill. According to the unions, important financial and accounting documents were being plundered, Focus news agency said.
Two labour unions, Podkrepa and the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, said the Bulgarian authorities neglected the mill and not enough policemen were guarding the mill. The unions said employees constantly tipped police off about theft at the mill.
Lyudmil Pavlov, head of the Podkrepa representation at the mill, said the administration of the mill had been carried off and given to the Indian management. The documents were said to have been sent to India for an accounting audit. "But the documents are being carried away without an inventory and no one can tell what exactly has been carried out," Pavlov said.
On August 6, Sofia City Court declared Kremikovtzi insolvent, opened a bankruptcy case and appointed a temporary receiver for the mill. The court's decision opened the way for its sale.
