Kremikovtzi workers gathered for a new protest in front of the steel mill’s entrance on February 26, demanding payment of their wages.
They shouted “Give us the money!” and claimed that they had not received yet salaries for January, while the food allowances have not been paid since November 2007.
An estimated 1000 employees from the day and the night shifts took part in the demonstration.
“We want the state to clearly say what is going on with Kremikovtzi because currently the factory is almost not functioning due to the decreased gas supply,” Lyudmil Pavlov from Podkrepa trade union bloc said. Protests would not stop until wages were paid in full, he warned.
Meanwhile, the steelworks’ managers gathered in another building near the rally place, waiting for it to end so they could enter Kremikovtzi, Focus news agency reported.
Pavlov also said that there was a big chance Kremikovtzi workers would take their protest to the streets of Sofia. He noted that the Government’s future actions would determine the fate of the steelworks.
