In an interview with Kosovo daily Koha Ditore on August 6 2008, Kosovar prime minister Hashim Thaci said that Pristina would not engage itself in negotiations with Belgrade under the six areas United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon proposed for dialogue back in June, website Balkan Insight reported.
The six areas include police, justice, boundary management, Serbian patrimony, transport, infrastructure and customs. Ban came up with them while unveiling plans for the reconfiguration of the UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), aimed at downplaying its role in the light of Kosovo's February 17 proclaimed independence and transferring more powers to the new state's own authorities and to the European Union's mission there, EULEX.
In compliance with Ban's decision, UNMIK's newly appointed chief Lamberto Zannier was instructed to start and moderate the discussions over the six points, Balkan Insight reminded.
