Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) and the National Electricity Company (NEC) would continue their supplies to the Kremikovtzi steel mill, despite the fact that the mill continued accumulating debts towards them, Economy and Energy Minister Petar Dimitrov said on July 31.
He warned however that NEC’s charity could not last forever. Kremikovtzi’s debt so far exceeded 70 million leva, Dnevnik daily quoted Dimitrov as saying.
Gas supplier Bulgargaz would limit its supplies to the mill to a minimum required to keep the mill functioning, Dimitrov said. On July 30, Bulgargaz warned the mill that supplies would be cut on from August 1. Kremikovtzi was said to have accumulated a debt towards the gas supplier of 38 million leva.
“We are waiting for the court’s decision on Kremikovtzi’s insolvency because we cannot pour money form Bulgarian companies in foreign suppliers and production buyers,” Dimitrov said. The court’s decision was expected to be announced by mid-August.
