Kazakhstan would be interested in the Bulgarian-Greek-Russian oil pipeline project Bourgas-Alexandroupolis, Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin said after meeting Kazakhstani president Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Kazakhstani oil would be transported to Novosibirsk, from where the tankers for Bourgas should leave. The oil would then reach the Greek port of Alexandroupolis through the pipeline from Bourgas.
Kazakhstani participation in the project would be possible in various ways, including ownership of part of the pipeline, Kalfin said as quoted by Focus news agency.
Kazakhstani revenue from oil export is being invested abroad, including in EU member states. Kazakhstan would be interested in Bulgaria’s economic development, Kalfin said.
Bulgaria’s energy, transport, and tourism feature among the fields Kazakhstan would be interested in.
Bulgaria and Kazakhstan could develop important transport projects, Kalfin said. Kazakhstan has in the past invested in the infrastructure of its neighbours. The country invested in the Georgian port of Poti on the Black Sea, which has a direct connection to Bulgaria, as there is already a ferry Bourgas-Poti.
Also on the list of Kazakhstani interests is grain export. That is the reason why Nikolai Borshukov, head of Bulgaria’s state grain reserve accompanied Kalfin on his visit to the country. Kazakhstan exports to Northern Africa and South Europe and is interested in the construction of infrastructure to improve export.
