Foreign military bases in Bulgaria would create work for local companies, US ambassador to Bulgaria John Beyrle said as quoted by Dnevnik daily.
Goods for the military bases would pass every month through Bourgas port, Beyrle said.
The coastal town of Aitos will also benefit from significant investment. The town's military store bases would be used by the US army. Local businesses could take part in the public procurement connected to the needs of US soldiers in Bulgaria, Beyrle said.
Most of the procurement would involve the construction, trade and services sectors.
US investment in Bulgaria was expected to double in 2006, Dnevnik said. US invested nearly $ 100 million for the reformation of the Bulgarian army in the past 10 years.
Another $ 600 million were invested in Bulgaria's civil society development and judicial reforms, Dnevnik reported.
