Bulgaria's national football team will play a friendly against  Iran on May 23 2008, the Bulgarian Football Union said on  April 21 2008. Iran will host the game.

The other friendly that Bulgarian players will have before the start of the qualifying sessions for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be against Bosnia and Herzegovina on August 20  in Sofia.

Because of its poor performance in the qualifying rounds, Bulgaria will not take part in this year's European championship in Austria and Switzerland.

The team is in qualifying group 8 for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, together with the teams of Italy, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus, Georgia and Montenegro.
