IRA CONSIDERED PROPERTY PURCHASES IN BULGARIA
08:03 Thu 27 Jul 2006

Irish Examiner reported that IRA planned to use money obtained through bank robbery to purchase property in Bulgaria.

In this manner the organisation planned to launder nearly 26.5 million pounds, the Examiner reported.

IRA denied it was involved in the robbery though police holds the organisation as main suspect.

According to the Irish Examiner the organisation planned to spend nearly 15 million pounds on a bank building in Bulgaria.

Quoting police sources Irish Examiner reported that the plans of the organisations had to change after police investigation of the issue. Police arrested a financial broker who carried nearly 2.3 million pounds cash. Investigators said the money is part of the stolen sum.
