The information that the US is positioning Stealth fighter aircraft in Bulgarian military bases is unfounded, US ambassador to Bulgaria John Beyrle said.

Beyrle commented on the report of Sunday Herald, according to which the US will use the joint military bases to launch an eventual attack on Iran. According to the report fighter aircraft were already brought to Bulgaria.

US lacks aircraft positioned in Bulgaria, Beyrle said. No activities will be launched from the military bases without the knowledge of the Bulgarian government, he said.

The bases in the country are Bulgarian, not American and reports like the one in Sunday Herald were ‘fantasy’ writings, Beyrle said.

Defence Ministry representatives said that no talks for the positioning of military equipment in the bases have never taken place.

US can bring aircraft to the country only after consultations and taking into consideration regulations and the sovereignty of Bulgaria.
