DECEMBER 2002 inflation was 1.2 per cent, the National Statistical Institute told a news conference on Monday.
The month's inflation was largely generated by rising food and oil prices. December 2002 food prices increased 2.8 per cent from November 2002, non-foods 0.7 per cent, and catering 0.3 per cent. Prices of services dropped 0.4 per cent.
Spirits prices went up 1.2 per cent, and wine prices 0.6 per cent. Beer was 0.6 per cent cheaper than the previous month. Overall, alcohol and tobacco prices remained stable.
Accumulated inflation, December 2002 from December 2001, was 3.8 per cent. Average annual inflation in 2002 was 5.8 per cent, down from 7.4 per cent in 2001 and 10.3 per cent in 2000.
