IMF AND LABOUR UNION REPRESENTATIVES MEET IN BULGARIA
10:15 Wed 10 May 2006

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission should change the manner in which it affects Bulgarian economic policies, head of KNSB labour union Zheliazko Hristov said.

Labour union representatives met yesterday analysts of the IMF visiting the country, Darik Radio reported.

Union representatives advocated maintenance of income levels. IMF demanded new measures for Bulgaria’s labour force crisis. Bulgaria still experiences a low employment level, IMF representatives said.

A number of Bulgaria’s economic problems resulted from strict implementation of IMF recommendations, Podkrepa labour union leader Konstantin Trenchev said.

Trenchev said labour unions supported the wage and pension increases suggested by the Labour and Social Policies Ministry. Such suggestions, however, have to be realistic and achievable, said Trenchev.
