Illegal constructions in the mainly Roma-populated Stolipinovo neighbourhood of Bulgaria's second biggest city Plovdiv would be taken down, Plovdiv mayor Ivan Chomakov said.
Chomakov said that police and municipal representatives discussed the problems of the neighbourhood and the possible solutions. Some of the major problems included illegal construction, poor hygiene and damaged infrastructure, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.
Regional governor Todor Petkov said that the problems in Stolipinovo were much more serious compared to those in other Plovdiv neighbourhoods. Further measures would be needed to find solution, said Petkov.
Owners of illegal buildings already received notification, Chomakov said. People would be accommodated in municipal property, said he.
Stolipinovo's illegal dumps were already removed and cleaning of the neighbourhood continues. It faces hepatitis A epidemics with more than 280 people infected already.
Chomakov said that in 25 days the Health Ministry would provide 12 500 Hepatitis A vaccines to prevent the spread of the infection among children.
