ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTIONS IN BULGARIA'S COASTAL REGION TAKEN DOWN
09:00 Fri 03 Nov 2006

All illegal buildings constructed in Bulgaria’s Black Sea coastal region were going to be taken down within a certain time limit.

These measures feature in the finally approved coastal construction law, Novinar newspaper reported. Three Cabinets have been discussing the law without actually enforcing it.

On November 2 the draft law was approved on second reading.

The law does not specify the type of illegal constructions that would be taken down. It envisions the creation of two coastal zones under protection.

Zone A would be located right next to the shore and would enjoy high level of protection.

All beaches belonging to national resorts would remain state property. Municipalities would be responsible for the approval and signing of concession contracts, Novinar reported.

So far only the state could conclude such deals.

Next week the draft law is expected to reach a plenary session, where it could start heated debates. Even if approved there, the Constitutional Court has the right to turn the project down, Novinar reported.
