'Outstanding' natural areas in Bulgaria like Rila and Pirin mountains were suffering from illegal construction and abuse of resources, the World Wide Fund (WWF) For Nature said.
The areas were ''some of Bulgaria’s greatest – and some of Europe’s last – natural treasures'', europe.tiscali.co.uk said.
WWF launched a campaign on September 19 to attract public attention and to force Bulgaria's government to take the measures needed to save the nature areas, europe.tiscali.co.uk said.
Several local environmental groups launched a petition for improvement of the legislative, administrative and judicial situation, europe.tiscali.co.uk said.
The campaign was supported by more that 30 media and advertising agencies.
