Plovdiv police detained four men and a woman on charges of human trafficking of foreign citizens on September 20 2007, Plovdiv deputy regional prosecutor Bozhidara Popova said on September 25.
Nearly 40 policemen took part in the action for neutralisation of the gang, Focus news agency reported.
The gang organised the trafficking of three Turkish citizens who entered Bulgaria with tourist visas. The traffickers prepared fake documents with which the Turks would have to reach France through Greece.
The five were arrested in the town of Simitli where they would meet with the Turks and the drivers, who would provide the transport.
During the arrest, policemen found fake documents in the pockets of the gang leader. The documents and a large amount of euros were seized.
All men arrested had criminal records, one had been sentenced before.
Police suspects the gang trafficked Russian and Ukrainian citizens too.
The three Turkish citizens were questioned and have been released.
The four men remain under arrest, while the woman was released on 5000 leva bail. If found guilty for human trafficking, the arrested would receive three to 10 years in prison.
