HUMAN TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATION IN BULGARIA PROLONGED
09:33 Wed 14 Jun 2006

The term for investigating the case of four men charged with human trafficking and forcing women into prostitution has been extended.

Court proceedings against the four men detained in March would start soon, Darik Radio reported.

Investigation is taking place in Bulgaria and other countries, as well. Since the national investigative service would operate in several countries, it would need more time to gather evidence, Darik reported.

The case is expected to enter the Stara Zagora prosecution before its vacation began.

After the four men were detained the regional Interior Ministry directorate questioned 17 women aged between 19 and 30. Most of the women traveled abroad where they were forced into prostitution for a period varying between three months and two years.

During its March 15 session the Stara Zagora Regional Court confirmed the detention and imprisonment of the four men.
