09:06 Mon 03 Sep 2007

Custom authorities at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint seized 20.110 kg of heroin.

The drug was hidden in a car with Dutch registration, heading to Turkey from the Netherlands, a press release of Bulgaria’s Customs Agency said.

The heroin was divided into 39 packages and placed in a specially designed compartment, Focus news agency reported. Two Dutch citizens drove the car.

According to authorities in Bulgaria, the drugs were worth more than 2.5 million leva.

It was the third case within a week of heroin being seized at the Bulgarian-Turkish border. On August 27 2007, custom officers seized 123.566 kg of the drug at the Lesovo border checkpoint. Another 32 kg of heroin was seized at the Malko Turnovo checkpoint days later.
