HOUSEHOLD INCOME IN BULGARIA INCREASES BY 21 PER CENT, EXPENDITURE GO 23 PER CENT UP

The average household income for June 2007 was 614.09 leva, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said.

This is an increase of 21 per cent compared to the same month of 2006, NSI said as quoted by investor.bg

Expenditure for June increased by 23 per cent on annual base, reaching 590.31 leva.

The average income per capita is 243.11 leva and the average expenditure, 233.69 leva.

The largest share within households’ income is the salary, making up 49.8 per cent of the household budget. Next is a pension, which makes up 21.9 per cent. Income from business rose from 5.6 per cent in June 2006 to 6.6 per cent in June 2007.

Food and soft drinks account for the largest household expenditure, at 191 leva a month or 34 per cent of income. An average of about 27 leva per month is spent on cigarettes, and 19 leva on clothing and shoes.

Expenditures on lodging, water, electricity and fuel comprise 11.7 per cent of total expenditure.
