House collapsed in Bulgaria's Varna
16:46 Fri 18 Jan 2008 - Spasena Baramova

The wall of a house collapsed on the night of January 17/18 in the centre of Varna, the Civil Protection regional directorate in Varna said.

The incident happened a short time after midnight but according to eyewitnesses the first wall fragments fell down at about 9pm on January 17. According to preliminary information the collapse was probably caused by dampness.

No one was hurt. The fallen wall fragments jammed two cars parked in the street, which were later released by a rescue team.

The house is located on 30 Rali Mavridov street in the area of the Co-operative market. It has been abandoned for years. According to the Varna's Odessos district the owner of the property is Luchezar Angelov.

According to people living in the area the place was normally very busy and it was the late hour of the incident that helped avoid more serious consequences and victims, Dnevnik daily said.

The area of the incident is closed. Experts of Varna municipality examined the location. The municipality is probably going to impose sanctions on the owners.

This was the third incident of this kind in Varna since the beginning of January 2008, Dnevnik daily said. The first one led to the death of a 22-year old girl, killed by a fallen bank canopy on a central Varna boulevard.
