A demonstration in favour of the five Bulgarian nurses sentenced to death for intentional HIV infection in Libya will close Hollywood's Walk of Fame on February 11 2007 at 11am.
Hollywood Avenue, where the Walk of Fame is situated, will be closed in the part in front of Kodak Theatre. The theatre is famous as the place where the Oscar awards ceremony is usually held.
Bulgarian communities in the states of California, Nevada and Arizona organised the demonstration, national private channel bTV said.
Bulgaria's consulate in Los Angeles and official US authorities supported the procession.
Organisers said that all local Bulgarian communities, Orthodox churches and businessmen of Bulgarian origin would take part in the You Are Not Alone campaign, launched in Bulgaria in support of the nurses.
London-based Bulgarian Medics Solidarity Project (BMSP) said that Bulgarian and foreign medics, public figures and intellectuals also decided to support the nurses.
They will present to German embassy in London an open letter to German chancellor Angela Merkel in her capacity of EU head during the German presidency.
Public figures from UK, US, France, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Canada, Spain, Austria, Japan and South Korea signed the letter, Focus news agency said.
The letter was prepared in connection to the eighth year of the nurses' imprisonment, Focus said.
The authors said that they hoped EU politicians and diplomats would defend the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and would try to pressure Libya.
