HIGH INTEREST IN BULGARIA'S WINTER RESORTS, NEED FOR BETTER INFRASTRUCTURE
08:04 Thu 16 Nov 2006

The number of hotels in Bulgaria's winter resorts was increasing fast and infrastructure developments failed keeping up with the construction pace, deputy head of the State Agency for Tourism (SAT) Stanislav Novakov said.

Bansko was experiencing problems with the water supply and electricity provision infrastructure, Novakov told Focus news agency.

The Bansko municipal council already approved measures to deal with the issue, said he. Yet all measures could not be carried out this year, said Novakov.

Nearly four million leva will be needed for infrastructure developments in Bansko. The situation in Pamporovo winter resort was worse, Novakov said.

At the same time the interest in Bulgaria's winter resorts was growing, Novakov told Focus.

Hotels in Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo were already booked until February, said he. This winter the number of tourist visits was expected to vary between 700 000 and 750 000.
