Customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint seized heroin worth 1.5 million leva.

The heroin was found on July 16 in a pickup truck trying to enter Bulgaria from Turkey, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.

Customs officers found 9.27 kg of heroin distributed in 17 packages, BTA reported.

A Bulgarian citizen was driving the vehicle in which the drug packages were found. The woman explained that the vehicle had undergone repairs in Turkey.

The Bulgarian denied she knew the drug packages were present.

Since the beginning of the year, customs officers uncovered 17 cases of drug smuggling through the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint, BTA reported.
