11:23 Mon 21 May 2007

The intense rainfalls in Sofia in the past several days caused floods and traffic problems in the city.

A landslide in the region of Vladaya residential complex closed the road from Sofia to the town of Pernik.

Vladaya Rver overflowed and flooded the residential district of Vladaya, Kiten street and Pliska street. All bridges along the river are blocked by waste and fallen trees.

More than 5000 residents of the capital informed officials of floods in various parts of the city including the residential districts of Izgrev, Iztok, Bukston, Hladilnika and Souha Reka on May 20. An emergency team has been formed to deal with the situation.

Several other regions close to Sofia were also affected by the downpour including Pancharevo, Samokov, Dolna Banya and Ihtiman.
