13:07 Wed 23 May 2007

The Health Ministry provided additional 2.6 million leva for salary increases of medical workers in Bulgaria.

Medical staff receiving the lowest salaries will benefit from an increase of 20 per cent.

Cabinet approved the increase in March. The hike will affect the wages of workers in children’s clinics, psychiatric hospitals and emergency aid centres.

Once the increase is introduced, the average salary in children’s clinics will reach 311 leva from the previous 267 leva.

Nurses and medical experts will get at least 20 per cent salary increase.

Health Ministry is providing the additional funds as part of its strategy to improve healthcare financing and work conditions for all employed in the sector.
