Pomoriisko Lake, near the town of Pomorie on the Black Sea coast, will be the location of an environmental festival organised by Green Balkans, a federation of environmental non-governmental organisations, on August 22 to 23 2008.

A photography conference and a photo-safari for taking pictures of rare bird species will be among the free amusements around the lake, along with bird watching, opportunities to bathe in the waters that have a naturally high content of healing salts, a concert, environmental films screenings and an exhibition of products extracted from the lake, such as healing muds and salts.

Free transport is provided for the guests on August 22, taking them from Pomorie central bus station and the bus stop in front of the municipality building straight to the Museum of Salt next to Pomoriisko Lake.

According to organisers, one of the most significant attractions during the festival will be the releasing back into the wild of birds that have been healed at the Green Balkans Rescue Centre for Wild Animals. Visitors can also view a professional photo exhibition and an exhibition of children's paintings and crafts, play games and expect many surprises.

The festival aims to present to the general public the charm of the natural protected area Pomoriisko Lake and its alternative tourism opportunities.

Participants of the festival include the Bulgarian Association for Alternative Tourism, the Association of the Parks in Bulgaria, Pomorie Balneology Hotel, the specialised rehabilitation hospital, Pomoriiski Solnitsi EAD, Green Coast Foundation, and domestic bee keepers, fruit growers, wine producers and more. The event is organised under the auspices of Bulgaria’s Vice-President Angel Marin and with the support of the European Commission, World Bank, Global Environmental Fund, the embassy of The Netherlands in Bulgaria and the democratic committee within the embassy of the United States in Bulgaria.
