The draft reports on Bulgaria and Romania, presented to the European Parliament (EP) on November 13 2006 by the EP rapporteurs for the two countries, differed a lot, Romanian Gandul daily newspaper said.
EP rapporteur for Romania Pierre Moscovici encouraged Romania’s government to carry out the reforms needed and expressed his satisfaction that the country had functioning market economy.
Geoffrey Van Orden, EP rapporteur for Bulgaria, on the other hand, reported that Bulgaria failed to improve fight against the organised crime, money laundering and human trafficking, Gandul said.
Van Orden emphasised that Bulgaria failed to take the measures needed to remove the problematic ‘red zones’. He said that he was very worried about the situation in Bulgaria.
Kolzoduy nuclear power plant, impediments before foreign investors and the lack of results from the fight against the corruption also worried Van Orden, Gandul said.
The draft report on Romania was much gentler, Gandul said.
