Khalid al Mughir, a Palestinian who has Bulgarian citizenship, was set free by his kidnappers and transferred to Israel on the morning of July 8 2007.

Palestinian group Hamas kidnapped Al Mughir from his home in the Gaza Strip on July 4, mediapool.bg said.

He was to be evacuated with a group of Bulgarians that wanted to leave Gaza.
Kidnapping is part of the Hamas strategy to purge the Palestinian territory from supporters of its rival, Al Fatah. Al Mughir is a Fatah supporter.

Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry said that Al Mughir’s captors had tortured him. He would receive every assistance and a medical examination, if needed.

Al Mughir was sent on to Jordan on the night of July 8 and was expected to arrive in Bulgaria on July 9, mediapool.bg said.
