15:00 Thu 20 Sep 2001

Greece is interested in taking part in the privatization of the Bulgarian energy sector through its State Energy Corporation and other companies, said Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg after meeting with Greek Development Minister Nikos Hristodoulakis on Tuesday.

The Bourgas-Alexandrupoulis pipeline project was also discussed, Hristodoulakis said, noting its significance not only for the supply of fuel but also for increasing the geopolitical and geostrategic importance of the entire region, especially in a period when great attention is paid to oil supply safety. Hristodoulakis said that the project will cost $600 million and that most of the piping will be laid on Bulgarian territory.
