Over 500 Greek and Bulgarian-Greek companies, registered in Bulgaria, provide jobs to almost 47,000 Bulgarians, the Greek Embassy in Sofia announced on Tuesday. The announcement came after a working meeting between representatives of Greek companies and banks in Bulgaria, Minister of Economy Nikolai Vassilev, and Finance Minister Milen Velchev.
“We are very proud of the number and the quality of Greek companies and banks that have invested considerable funds into the Bulgarian economy over the past few years and thus contributed to its faster development,” Greek ambassador Michalis Christidis said after the meeting.
Over the past five years, the size and the quality of investment made by Greek companies, or by Bulgarian companies owned by Greek nationals, have increased considerably. According to unofficial data, Greek investment in Bulgaria has exceeded $600 million, which places Greece among the top foreign investors in Bulgaria.
