GRAIN PRICES IN BULGARIA TO GO DOWN - PROGNOSIS
15:36 Fri 03 Aug 2007

Grain prices are expected to go down by the end of August 2007, which will calm the processed agricultural products market.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Svetla Buchvarova said, as quoted by Darik Radio, that grain prices will decrease, which will stabilise the market.

She said that the differences in prices were chaotic. Flour prices varied between 550 and 750 leva a ton and bread prices between 0.60 leva and 1.25 leva a kg.

Poultry farmers’ union announced on August 2 2007 that chicken and egg prices would increase because of increased grain prices.

A ton of grain costs 300 to 400 leva, compared to 160 leva in 2006.

Grain price hikes were attributed to poor crops leading to increased demand.
