09:32 Mon 07 Aug 2006

Archaeologist Martin Hristov and his team discovered 545 gold peaces and a dagger dating back to the 3rd century BC.

The treasures were found close to Dubene village in the Karlovo region, Darik Radio reported.

According to archaeologists the dagger was a sensational find as it was completely preserved. Apart from its high art value, the dagger demonstrated the skill of ancient artisans from the culture that inhabited the Karlovo region, Darik reported.

Previously archaeologists discovered more than 15 500 gold artifacts in the same region. Restoration experts managed to put together several necklaces from the pieces.

Treasures found in the region previously are already presented in Italy and Denmark. Two belong to the Thracian gold exhibition currently displayed in Varna.

The new treasures would be exhibited in the National Museum of History starting August 9 as they were in good condition.
