German parliament would probably consider on first reading Bulgaria and Romania's EU accession treaty on September 28, Michael Stuebgen, MP and chairman of the Germany-Bulgaria Friendship Group at the German parliament, said.
Stuebgen made his statement at a forum called Bulgaria On the Final Sprint where Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin was also present, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.
The second reading of the treaty would probably be in the last week of October, Stuebgen said.
Only after the second reading, the parliament would vote the treaty.
It was much more difficult for Bulgaria and Romania than it was for the ten countries that joined the EU in 2004, Stuebgen said. If these countries had to fulfill the same criteria, half of them would have been subjected to safeguard clauses, he said.
