CEO of the Austrian energy company OMV Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer said that the two major gas pipelines Nabucco and Blue Stream II may join in Bulgaria, according to an interview by Dnevnik Daily.
Construction on the 3 300km, 4.5 Nabucco project is expected to begin in 2008. The pipeline will transport natural gas from Iran and Azerbaijan to Central Europe through Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Austria.
The transit capacity of the pipeline is projected at 25.5 billion cubic metres per year in the base case and 31 billion cubic metres in the high case, according to IntelliNews.
The first gas supplies are slated for 2011 at the earliest.
