French retailer commercial range Carrefour is interested in constructing a hypermarket in the Bulgarian town of Pazardzhik.
The company asked Pazardzhik’s municipal administration to find a proper plot of 12 000 sq m for the construction, Dnevnik daily said.
Ivan Shoumanov, deputy mayor of Pazardzhik, told Dnevnik that Carrefour’s representatives already examined several lots in the municipality.
Carrefour liked a plot at the entrance of the town, located on Trakia highway, Shoumanov said. The lot is situated near Shell and McDonald’s complexes.
Shoumanov also said that some state-owned land near the highway could be suitable for Carrefour’s project.
Pazardzhik’s authorities offered Carrefour to rent a former department store or an area in a business park to be built.
The town’s chief architect Nikolai Mladenov said that Carrefour had already purchased a plot and had a project, but its execution was not launched yet.
Currently Pazardzhik has two hypermarkets and a third one is under construction.
Carrefour already launched the construction of a hypermarket in Sofia.
