French senate ratified Bulgaria’s EU accession treaty on October 3, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.
French parliament had already ratified the document on June 27 2006.
The communist senators refused to vote on the accession treaty, AFP said. They said that they accept ‘with open arms’ the peoples of Bulgaria and Romania but were afraid that the integration of these peoples to the EU would bring them only disappointment.
Senate ratification ended the ratification procedure in France.
Germany and Denmark are the only two EU countries that still have to ratify the treaty to make Bulgaria’s EU entry on January 1 2007 official.
