The effective strike of teachers in Bulgaria continues for the fourth consecutive day.
According to the regional education inspectorates’ data, 39 per cent of the schools in the country participate in the strike.
Education Ministry said that the number of teachers who support the strike is less, because not all the teachers in the schools on strike take part in the protests.
A teachers’ protest is scheduled for 4.30pm in front of the Education Ministry on September 27 2007, Focus news agency said.
MP Diana Hitova, member of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee, said that she hoped Education Ministry and teacher’s unions would come to an agreement by the end of the week.
The strike would be discussed during the parliamentary control on September 28 2007, she said as quoted by Focus.
Teachers’ unions launched the effective strike on September 24 2007, demanding a 100 per cent increase in the salaries. The Cabined promised only 52 per cent increase by July 2008.
