Bulgaria's ambassador to Kazakhstan and former prosecutor-general Nikola Filchev, who was under national investigation, returned to Bulgaria, Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin said.
On June 15 Filchev refused to appear during a sitting of the trail against him and left for Kazakhstan to begin his term in office, causing heated public debates. Flichev was tried for illegally tapping Bulgarian politicians and of concealing corruption evidence.
Darik Radio quoted Kalfin as saying that Filchev requested a one-month leave until the end of August. On June 20 Filchev left Kazakhstan for personal reasons without informing the Foreign Ministry, thus violating the legal procedures.
President Georgi Purvanov said that Kalfin was expected to investigate the case and impose sanctions if the accusations against Filchev turned out right. Purvanov added that Filchev's behaviour was unjustified and unacceptable.
