Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) included 18 of its members in the party’s list of nominees for the Members of European Parliament (MEP) elections in May 2007.
Dimitar Avramov, head of UDF’s election headquarters, told Focus news agency that the party’s leader Petar Stoyanov will lead the list.
Stoyanov said that he will keep his position as leader of the party, even if elected for MEP.
Participation in the MEP election list of nominees was duty, instead of lust for “warm seat in Brussels of Strasbourg,” Stoyanov said.
According to UDF MP Dimitar Iordanov the elections were very important for UDF, because the party will take part in the elections independently for the first time in a long period.
Former prime minister and one of UDF’s prominent members Philip Dimitrov was excluded from the list.
Another former minister received a nomination. Nadezhda Mihailova, former foreign minister, will compete for an MEP position.
