Bulgarian customs officials seized 47 kg of heroin on the border with Macedonia, a customs agency spokesperson was quoted by news24.com as saying.
The drugs were hidden in a car travelling from Turkey to Albania which was stopped at the Gyueshevo border checkpoint, customs spokesperson Marina Marinova told Bulgarian news agency BTA.
The heroin had been distributed in 80 packages, wrapped in oilskin and powdered with spices in order to try and trick customs sniffer dogs.
The Turkish driver of the car had been arrested.
This was the first heroin bust on Bulgaria's borders in 2008, news42.com said.
