High temperatures have led to numerous fires in Bulgaria in recent weeks and days, and thousands of square metres of forests have been destroyed.
Currently, Topolovgrad is the hardest-hit. The fire reached the villa zone of the town, Focus news agency reported.
Villas, agricultural buildings and six to eight million sq m of green areas, 121 000 sq m of pine forest, vineyards and orchards were burned.
Firefighters put out a blaze just 20m from a fuel station. The main fire was brought under control, Focus said.
The situation in the Haskovo region was improving, as firefighters managed to contain all the fires. Some areas were still smouldering, but fire brigades were monitoring them to prevent further outbreaks, Focus said.
