Sofia residents turned to firefighters and emergency teams concerning 33 cases of flooding and fallen trees on May 21.

The situation resulted from heavy rainfall over the weekend that is expected to continue throughout the week.

Vladaya, Malashevtsi and Ivan Vazov residential districts are still dealing with the downpour damages. Nearly 60 firefighters are involved in the operations.

Firefighters pumped water out of 23 schools, kindergartens and hospitals.

Car passage through the Vladaya region is still hindered and drivers are advised to be careful.

The situation is most serious in Sofia, though some other parts of the country suffered damage as well.
