09:06 Mon 21 Aug 2006

European experts would start the final inspection of Bulgaria’s success in the fight against corruption on August 21.

Interior Minister Roumen Petkov already presented some of the measures his ministry undertook to counter corruption.

Petkov said that 41 Interior Ministry employees were dismissed on charges of corruption.

The Financial Intelligence Agency also expected the end of the first trials on charges of money laundering, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

In case co-operation between the Interior Ministry and the agency continued, further developments were expected in the future, agency head Vassil Kirov said.

‘Revolutionary’ changes to bank secret legislation were going to give new opportunities for efficient investigation and measures against money laundering, Kirov said.
