The fifth consecutive charity campaign Bulgarian Christmas launched on December 1 2007 on the initiative of, and under the patronage of President Georgi Purvanov and first lady Zorka Purvanova.

Bulgarian Christmas initiative raises funds for medical treatment of ill children and for the purchase of medical equipment for children clinics and wards.
Bulgarian Christmas 2007 aims at helping 37 children. Results of the campaign are available at www.bgkoleda.bg in Bulgarian only.

The former four campaigns raised a total of 7.38 million leva. The sum was utilised for medical treatment of close to 170 children. Almost 50 children clinics received equipment and ambulances worth more than 5.87 million leva.

Main organisers of the initiative are the President’s administration, Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and the private channel Nova Television.

The three mobile phone operators in the country, MobilTel, Globul and Vivatel and the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) take part in the campaign by providing telephone lines. Donations are made by calling or sending an SMS to a specific number.
BTC clients who want to help should call 0900 1117, for clients of mobile operators the number to call or send an SMS to is 1117. The cost of the calls and the SMSs is one lev.

Donations can also be transferred via the ePay.bg system and with VISA and Master Card credit cards.

For the first time, as part of the campaign, post cards and vehicle stickers will be sold at the price of one lev.
