World number one and, arguably, the best tennis player in the world right now Roger Federer reached his sixth Wimbledon final on July 4 2008. He won his semi-final against Russia's Marat Safin in a one hour and 48 minutes (6-3, 7-6, 6-4).

It was no surprise that Federer reached the final, but what was a surprise was that Safin did not put much of a resistance. Federer won in three straight sets, leaving no doubts about his determination of winning the tournament this year.

The Swiss star will try to win his sixth title this year in what might become a re-play of last year's final. Back in 2007, Federer won against Spain's Rafael Nadal in a classic final that lasted for three hours and 45 minutes (7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2). Each of them has an old score to settle after Nadal's devastating win over Federer at this year's French Open.

Nadal booked his own place in the final by winning against Germany's Rainer Schuettler, which given his top form this season, caused him little problem. The Spaniard won the his semi-final in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.

It all came down to Schuettler not recovering from his quarter-final against Frenchman Arnaud Clement the previous day. It was one of the longest matches so far this year and it took  Schuettler a lot of effort and strength to win it (6-5, 5-7, 7-6, 6-7, 8-6).
