Sofia Nomads FC will play against Bansko Wanderers on April 19 in a re-match of a game played in June last year, which ended in a 2:2 draw.
“The game [last year] was played in such a sporting manner that we are all looking forward to it. It should be good,” Martin McMaster from the British embassy in Bulgaria told The Sofia Echo.
McMaster is the chairman of Sofia Nomads, a club that has existed for three years and is made up mostly of diplomats, as well as other expats. It has more than 100 active members, who play three times a week at the Slavia and M-Sport pitches in the Bulgarian capital.
“We are pretty active and have a proper structure,” McMaster said. With members from as far as Argentina and Colombia, as well as Germany, France and Britain, the team’s ambition is to join Bulgaria’s football league.
Nomads’ game against the Bansko-based expats will be played on the grass pitch in the village of Bistritsa just south of Sofia, using standard association football rules with two halves of 45 minutes and 11 players in each team. A professional referee will be employed for the match, which will kick off at 4.30pm.
