In what instances could pornography be treated as art? How could we draw the line between the two, moreover, how do we recognise when the artistic value has been exhausted and we have entered the land of the ugly?

An opportunity for discussion and more contemplation on the topic is presented by the excellent programme of Късо съединение (Short Circuit), a selection of provocative short films, music videos and performances. They will be showcased at Дома на киното (the Cinema house) starting July 2 at 9pm and will continue through the following four Thursdays (July 10, 17, 24, 31). The happening is an initiative of art association Pozor.

Destricted, a rather scandalous anthology consisting of seven short films by different artists, will open the screening. Some of the featured film-makers include Matthew Barny with his Hoist, a film shot in Salvador dealing with the clash of libidinal energy and destructive forces of technology. Serbian artist Maria Abramovic explores the meaning of eroticism in the Balkan folklore in her film Balkan Erotic Epic.

American photographer turned film-maker Larry Clark believes that young people born in the 1980s have grown up with an easy access to pornography. He has interviewed people aged between 19 and 23 with the attempt understand whether watching explicit videos at young age has influenced the way they think about sex.

Some of the other artists include Richard Prince and Marco Brambilla.

The programme continues with the screenings of the featured titles are Final Journey by Brendan Muldowney, Last Night by director Conor Morrissey and The White Dress by Vanessa Gildea among others.

The performance TRIP: Remix Your Experience by German director Frank Otto is scheduled for July 31 at 9 pm, and it is a free-form project where 12 artists express themselves in every possible way.
