Though the European Commission report on Bulgaria’s readiness to become EU member resembled mostly a roadmap concerning further reforms needed, it also praised the country for all its efforts.
Nuclear safety, as well as the decision on the closure of block of Kozlodui nuclear power plant featured among the accomplishments noted in the September 26 report, Dnevnik newspaper reported.
Bulgaria also achieved success in countering human trafficking, implementing child protection measures and minority integration. These have always featured among the areas subjected to criticism.
EC also noted Bulgaria’s macroeconomic stability and overall economic reforms. The report noted as positive developments the VAT-law accepted in June, as well as labour code changes.
Bulgaria could still be subjected to restrictions in four key areas, the report said. Among these were agriculture, justice and home affairs, EU fund utilisation and aviation, Dnevnik reported.
