Bulgaria should make all efforts to fulfil EU entry requirements as on-time accession on January 1 2007 was in the country's interests, European commissioner for justice Franco Frattini said.
On July 11 Frattini met Interior Minister Roumen Petkov in Rabat during a European-African forum dedicated to migration problems, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) reported.
Frattini said that he would visit Sofia in the end of July to examine the progress in the fight against money laundering and high-level corruption. His visit was aimed at improving the co-operation between the EU and Bulgaria and at helping the country meet all accession requirements by the end of 2006, BNR said.
The EU justice commission bore responsibility for Bulgaria's on-time entry and would take all possible measures to help the country, Frattini said.
Petkov said that that the number of detentions should not be the main measure for the efficiency of the Interior Ministry's work.
Bulgaria remained a transit country for human trafficking and should work on becoming a secure EU border, Petkov added.
