Inspectors from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) would arrive to Bulgaria to inspect Bulgarian air transportation.
The EU experts would examine the work of Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) Bulgaria, mediapool.bg reported. CAA will have to present the measures undertaken to deal with the areas mentioned as critical in the latest European Commission report on Bulgaria’s readiness to join the EU.
As a result of the inspection Brussels would decide whether to introduce a safeguard clause for Bulgaria’s aviation, mediapool.bg reported.
EC’s report criticised the lack of administrative capacity for the regular carrying out of aviation safety inspections.
Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev requested the hiring of 12 more inspectors. Analysts, however, said that this was insufficient to solve the problem.
A week ago Moutafchiev said that Bulgaria was going to face difficulties overcoming the EC criticism.
