Prices in Bulgaria were to increase but the country's EU entry was not the only reason for such developments, European Parliament observer Lidia Shouleva said.
Higher electricity prices and inflation were also among the main reasons for the expected price hikes, said Shouleva as quoted by Bulgarian National Radio.
Higher inflation, resulting only from Bulgaria's EU entry, should not be expected, said Shouleva.
Sometimes economic expectations themselves could lead to higher prices, said she. Such was the case with Bulgaria's property sector, said she. Expectations for higher prices led to an increase, maintained by the high demand.
Demand, deficit and competitive pressures also played their role, said Shouleva. EU entry was going to open the Bulgarian market and some European goods could misplace the Bulgarian equivalent, said she.
